OUR HISTORY

The groundwork for Routt County Council on Aging was laid in 1972 when a group of individuals formed a steering committee to initiate a home delivered meal program for senior citizens in Routt County. This committee later formed Routt County Senior Services, which then became Routt County Council on Aging, Inc. (RCCOA). RCCOA’s certificate of incorporation was issued June 13, 1977, and the organization received a non-profit 501(C)(3) designation February 20, 1980.

Since its inception in the 1970’s, RCCOA has expanded far beyond its original purpose of providing home-delivered meals to seniors.  Services now provided by Routt County Council on Aging include transportation for seniors to and from meals, medical appointments, the grocery store, etc., home delivered and congregate meals, recreation programs and resources.

Given a choice, older adults often prefer to stay in their community—and in most cases, in their own homes—for as long as possible. RCCOA helps make that choice possible. We strive to ensure that seniors can age in place by providing resources and information they need to make decisions on their health, their living situation and their personal care needs.

MISSION

The mission of Routt County Council on Aging is to determine the needs of the senior citizens in Routt County and to make every effort to meet those needs with appropriate action.

VISION

  • Promote, maintain and improve the health and well-being of older adults through the provision of a nutritionally balanced meal at least three days per week in strategically located sites throughout Routt County.

  • To provide nutrition education and supportive service activities in order to enhance the older adult’s ability to remain independent.
